“UConn’s Back” - Jordan Hawkins, University of Connecticut
“It’s March Madness, emphasis on the madness” - Matt Bradley, San Diego State University
For today, the focus is on the NCAA finale: UConn vs. SDSU (Today, April 3 at 9:20 EST)
So let’s dive into it.
The Championship is finalized. It all comes down to this. Let’s look at the lines for the matchup between UConn and SDSU.
March Madness (NCAAM Championship):
Let’s dive into the matchup and see where the value lies.
The Analysis: San Diego State (#5) vs. Connecticut (#4) (NCAAM)
The stage is set for an epic battle as the San Diego State Aztecs (#5) take on the Connecticut Huskies (#4) in the NCAA Men's Tournament.
It’s time to place your bets.
Both teams have had an impressive season so far, and are hungry for a win to solidify their place in history.
UConn is a heavy favorite, with the line in at -410 to win outright, while SDSU is a +405 dog.
The lines are likely lopsided due to UConn’s dismantling of a very good University of Miami team.
Here are Bettor Secrets, we tend to agree with the oddsmakers here. It’s very unlikely that SDSU can eke out a win in this one - but it doesn’t make much sense to bet on the heavy favorite when you’re only getting $40 back for betting $100.
Looking at expert picks around the media-sphere, bleacher report, CBS Sports, ESPN and other analysts all pick UConn to win outright.
Where things get a little more interesting is the spread of ± 7.5. Despite UConn’s dominance, SDSU has shown they have that “dawg in them” as they say.
If they can out-hustle UConn on rebounds and defense, they may be able to keep things close. At least two analysts at CBS Sports, Gary Parrish and David Cobb have picked SDSU to cover.
Then again, if you feel confident that UConn will continue to smack down the competition, it is equal odds to pick them to cover.
The Over-Under is also very interesting (it’s almost like those oddsmakers know what they’re doing). The score between UConn and UMiami added up to 131. The O/U of this one is set at 132. It’s a toss up, honestly. Go with your gut.
Connecticut Huskies (-410)
San Diego Aztecs (+305)
Point spread: San Diego +7.5 (-110), Connecticut -7.5 (-110)
Over/Under: O132 (-110), U132 (-110)
The Huskies are a perfect 4-0 in national championship games, winning in 1999, 2004, 2011 and 2014.
San Diego State will be playing in its first national championship game. Prior to this season, the Aztecs had never made it beyond the Sweet 16.
