Back to the Bay and a UFC Trip to Iowa

The first round is finally coming to a close. The only game we’ve got tonight is a potential closeout opportunity for the Golden State Warriors as they head back home to take on the Houston Rockets in Game 6. Thankfully we’ve got a full slate of UFC bets, which we did quite well on last week.

Here’s what we've got today:

  • Rockets vs. Warriors Pick

Rockets vs. Warriors Pick

This series has been one of the most unpredictable, a fact evidenced by our little losing streak on game picks on either side. The Rockets will enter on the heels of the best defensive performance of the postseason, which saw them hold Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler to a combined 21 points. That, in conjunction with a 43% clip from beyond the arc, sealed a victory that saw the Warriors bench their starters for most of the second half.

There are plenty of positives to take away from the loss, which is a bit surprising given its blowout fashion. A major concern for the Warriors was the fatigue that would set in over the course of this series, seeing as Butler, Curry, and Draymond Green aren’t exactly spring chickens. All three got almost the entire second half off, somewhat negating the rest issue. Second is of course the return to the Bay Area. Golden State defended its home floor twice in a row, once in convincing fashion and once in a razor close game. The Warriors should close this series out in convincing fashion against a Houston team that has been far too inconsistent to bet on in any fashion.

Picking the UFC Slate

We made a bunch of money on the UFC last week, and another great card gives us the opportunity to keep the ball rolling. This time the Octagon is in Des Moines, hosting an event in the Midwest for the second time in two weeks.

Lock of the Night: Azamat Bekoev (-400)

This is obviously a massive line, but it’s a solid anchor for a parlay. Bekoev has an excellent pre-UFC resume, and he took out the trash against Zachary Reese in his first UFC appearance. Ryan Loder is not a UFC-caliber fighter, only making the roster because of his appearance on one of the worst seasons of The Ultimate Fighter ever. Bekoev should get this fight done inside the distance.

Upset of the Night: Daniel Marcos (+168)

There are three or four underdogs who are worth a look, but Marcos is the best of them. He’s an undefeated fighter taking on another great prospect in Montel Jackson, but he has notable advantages in the striking department. Jackson is a decent striker, but he’s not particularly well-rounded. Meanwhile, Marcos is an eight-limbed attacker, utilizing a variety of kicks, elbows, and knees to pick apart opponents. He should find a decision win and put on a striking clinic in the process.

Even Pick of the Night: Daniel Rodriguez (+100)

There’s absolutely no reason for Rodriguez to be an underdog against Santiago Ponzinibbio. The Argentinian had his moments in the sun, but he’s 38 now, with one win in the last three years. Rodriguez isn’t a world-beater, but he’s good enough to take out an aging vet who’s best days are far behind him.
