All Sorts of NBA Bets and an NFL Update

Another week, another Wednesday newsletter. We’ve got just the thing to spice up the middle of the workweek. No more sitting at your desk and vaguely wondering what the plays are for tonight’s games. Ballers has got you covered below with a player prop parlay (Fred VanVleet will not be included, seeing as he sold us on Monday), some more NBA coverage, and NFL coaching news.
Here’s what we've got today:

Nuggets-Knicks Same Game Parlay
There’s a full slate of NBA action today, but this is the most appealing game by far. Why not make it a little more interesting by putting together a three-leg player prop parlay?
Jalen Brunson Under 7.5 Assists (-132)
Brunson is the lead ballhandler for the Knicks, but this is a bit of a steep line regardless. He’s gone under in eight of his last ten, and a matchup with a top-ten defensive team in the Nuggets is a good recipe for another under on Wednesday.

Josh Hart Over 6.5 Assists (+122)
While Denver allows very few assists to point guards, they allow one of the highest numbers in the NBA to shooting guards. Hart

plays an insane amount of minutes, and the matchup is there. To top it off, it’s plus money. What’s not to like?
Michael Porter Jr. To Score More Than 15 Points (-170)
It’s not quite a gimme, but this is a pretty nice line. Porter is an elite scorer who’s scored more than 15 points in three of his last four. The Knicks allow a bunch of points to opposing small forwards, and this should be a competitive game in which the starters get plenty of run. Take the juice to cap off a nice parlay.

This doesn’t yield insane odds, but a ten-dollar bet still turns into 42. Can’t complain about that.

NBA Quick Hitters
Can’t lie, the last edition of Quick Hitters didn’t exactly go to plan. The Lakers missed a cover by one point, the Heat suspended Jimmy Butler before game time and lost a close one to the Magic, and the Knicks dropped 143 points to shatter the under in a cherry on top of a bad NBA day. No looking back in anger over here, though. Onto greater things. (another three-leg parlay.) Here’s a look at the odds.

Clippers vs. Spurs
The Clippers have got to be exhausted coming into this game. They’ve played six games in the last nine days, most recently a hotly contested loss to the Suns in which every important player handled a significant minutes load.

Now they have to travel to San Antonio to face a gritty Spurs team that has had four days of rest, a situation in which they are 6-0 against the spread. Take San Antonio to cover.
Timberwolves vs. Suns
The Suns have rattled off three wins in a row, but it’s hard to find reason to back them here. They’re 7-15-1 against the spread as a home team, and now they might not have a full lineup available. Starters Ryan Dunn and Kevin Durant are both questionable for this game.

The Timberwolves have also won three straight, and they are far healthier. Minnesota is also 13-11 ATS on the road. Their spread deserves the nod here.
Thunder vs. Warriors
The days of Golden State dominance are long gone, and they’re in bad shape here. No Stephen Curry, no Draymond Green, and the best team in the west coming into town. The Thunder haven’t played since Sunday, meaning they should come out rested and prepared against a handicapped Warriors squad. OKC’s spread is best here.
Here’s a look at what the parlay would net you.

NFL Head Coaching Updates: What’s New and What’s Left?
The annual hiring bonanza has largely come to a close. As usual, there’s been a bit of the good, the bad, and the ugly this year. The Ben Johnson hire in Chicago stands out as one of the best, while a couple of recent hires have been head-scratching at best.
Speculation surrounding the Dallas Cowboys and Deion Sanders ran wild for a while, and the actual hire wasn’t all that much better. Former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer got the nod, despite a lack of any proven track record of success.

You wouldn’t have known who this was without context.
It gets worse. The Jaguars, desperate for a candidate after missing out on all of the highly-regarded ones, turned to Liam Coen. Coen, the architect of Tampa Bay’s 2024 offense, only has two years as a coordinator under his belt. Both were successful, but both came with absolutely loaded offensive groups. Now, he has the keys to Jacksonville’s franchise. Questionable at best.

Finally, we come to the Saints. New Orleans, with its bad front office and worse cap situation, is an absolute nightmare of a head coaching gig. Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has been linked to the job, but it would be a surprise if he took it. As long as Mickey Loomis remains the general manager, a quality candidate will be hard to come by.
